Trained at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Deborah has had a varied career as an illustrator. Her assignments have spanned a full range of media, from filmstrip, to advertising, to children’s books. The latter led to her debut as an author.

After returning to school to earn a BS in Social Justice Theory from Sarah Lawrence College, she embarked on a different path as a diversity educator. Art was never far from her heart, and it played a dominant role in all the workshops she designed.

When Deborah returned to art as a career, she expanded her focus to venture into the world of portraiture. Whether completing a portrait or illustration, Deborah strives to see beyond the surface in order to portray the intangibles of personality, be the subject two-legged or four-legged.

In order to stay connected to her social justice ideals, she spends a few months each year working on conflict transformation through art at the Aikiyam Bi-lingual School in Kuilapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India.

Deborah is the Co-Chair of the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, and a member of the Connecticut Pastel Society and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
